a table for one, and then some

i walked down to waltermart for lunch today. it's within walking distance (as far as i'm concerned anyway) from my mom's office, which is right next to a biker's lounge that turns into a salsa club at night.

when i was younger, my dad would take us there after sunday service to buy dog food and other things mom wouldn't allow on the grocery list. recently, it has been renovated into a fairly decent mini mall of sorts, complete with bibliarch and starbucks. yes. we are (sadly) a mall culture.

one thing you must know about me: i can't dine by myself. i think eating is best enjoyed as a communal act, a sharing of life's bounty with friends. in cases like this, i make do with the company of books, if only to create a sense of "otherness" at my lonely table. i ended up with a copy of reader's digest, which cost only a few bucks less than my meal. anything along the lines of seventeen or cosmopolitan would have just driven me into ditzy insanity.

incidentally, the cosmo cover proudly screams a new sex position, #77. see if i care.

on the walk back to the office, the weather had gone from cloudy to a delicate composition of the slightest drizzle and just a hint of afternoon sunshine. i passed a man who wore a shirt that said "taoist temple" and smelled of spice-sweet incense.

for girls in need of an ego boost, try walking a stretch of road where people of all sorts pass. you're a bound to hear at least one "hi mees byutipul" or any of its variants along the way. the same advice applies for those looking for something to focus their pms-angst on.

for guys, i don't think you need an ego boost. hehehe!

kael was asking about my notebooks: i don't think i can put a fixed price because it all depends on the materials i use. since it's personalized, i don't repeat designs either. the paper i use are thick, sketchbook-quality paper and are a bit expensive. as for the binding, i'm still figuring out how to sew the pages together instead of using spiral wire. overall, a single notebook may cost anywhere between Php 100 to 150. :)
